DESCRIPTION

Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival seeks a seasonal, full-time Theater Operations Manager to ensure consistent and efficient handling of nightly theater site operations for our outdoor theater, performing three productions in repertory from June through September, and receiving 30,000 patrons annually. The Theater Operations Manager reports directly to the General Manager, providing on-the-ground facilities support in real time, and additionally provides support to the Manager of Ticketing and Audience Services in their oversight of customer-facing front of house duties. The position also works closely with the Director of Production, and House Manager(s), and creates a functional bridge between front and back of house operations to ensure a clean, safe, welcoming physical environment for all HVSF audiences and staff, and additionally ensures the efficient handling of operations for all outdoor performances, technical rehearsals, and special events.

The basic scope of duties as defined and discussed includes, but is not limited to:

Maintain clean, safe, and well-resourced work areas and visitor areas, with special attention to audience safety.

Collaborate with HVSF administrative staff to update safety protocols and emergency preparedness plans, and oversee related training & implementation.

Plan seasonal site equipment needs and assist in the coordination of vendor agreements.

Support the Director of Production with on-site tent setup and organization.

Partner with the Manager of Ticketing and Audience Services to plan, oversee, and execute the Front-of-House load in of seating, etc.

Schedule and oversee regular cleaning & maintenance of site facilities, including nightly preparations to receive theater patrons.

Organize, clean, and inventory House storage and cleaning supplies.

Partner with the Manager of Ticketing and Audience Services to schedule and deliver all staff training in COVID safety, emergency response, evacuation, site safety, nightly operations, and use of equipment.

Support the Manager of Ticketing and Audience Services in attending to patron accessibility needs in real time.

Support site, performer, and audience safety needs in real time while performances are in progress.

Maintain HVSF’s fleet of golf carts, and train staff on their safe, productive, and efficient use.

Support House Managers with on-site needs, including: displays and signage, bathroom facilities, inventory, playbills, and nightly house cleanup.

Support and assist all pre- and post-show ancillary events as requested.

As needed, respond to on-site incidents and draft clear, comprehensive, and correct incident reports.

Identify site & facility issues needing attention (restrooms, pathways, picnic areas, etc.), and collaborate with the General Manager on resolutions aligned with needs and budget.

Participate in HVSF’s Climate Team(s), charged with evaluating and responding to extreme weather impacts on theater operations.

Working in collaboration with the General Manager, implement sustainability procedures into daily site operations.

Support HVSF in fostering our core values of Excellence, Inclusion, Generosity, Playfulness, and Sustainability and in our work to become an anti-racist institution.

Train as a substitute House Manager to support front of house operations if needed

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience

The Theater Operations Manager must have:

2+ years of supervisory & management experience

Familiarity with public-facing venue operations

Evening and weekend availability

Superior organizational skills

Proactive, creative problem-solving skills

Patient, attentive, and friendly demeanor

Clear communication and effective collaboration skills

Completion of First Aid & CPR Training (provided by employer)

Terms and Compensation

This is a seasonal, full time in-person commitment starting May 2024 through September 2024, requiring evening and weekend availability, with flexible daytime hours to complete administrative work. Part time hours available prior to start date. Compensation is $750 per week. All staff members at HVSF are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID19.
